Fitting and care

• An Optimist carries three buoyancy bags: one along each side and one at the stern. Order three to fit out a full boat.
• Inflate until the bag is firm but still soft to the touch. An over-inflated bag can burst as it heats up in the sun.
• Check the hull for sharp edges, screws or fittings that could snag or puncture the bag.
• Inspect straps and valves regularly. Measurers and safety officers check that bags hold air and are secured to the hull.
